What’s the first thing you see when a person’s smile? If you happen notice whether or not they have straight teeth, then we’re willing to bet you wish you had a straight smile, too. But now as an adult the idea of wear traditional metal braces may not be all that appealing. Fortunately, we offer a very good alternative. Dr. Ben Aissa is a certified provider of Invisalign, a modern way to straighten teeth that is much more discreet than metal brackets and wires.
What Makes Invisalign Different?
Unlike traditional braces that require bonding metal brackets to your teeth and threading an arch wire through those brackets, Invisalign uses clear plastic mouth trays to move your teeth. Called aligners, these braces are made of clear PBA-free plastic that is smooth. You’ll never have to worry about a bracket irritating your gums or a sharp wire poking the inside of your cheek. Invisalign aligners simply fit snuggly over your teeth without affecting the rest of your mouth.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign?
In addition to being discreet, Invisalign offers another distinct advantage. Your aligners are removable. (Try doing that with traditional braces!) This means that when you want to eat or brush and floss your teeth, all you have to do is take out the aligners. You’ll be able to eat whatever you like, including foods you wouldn’t be able to enjoy if you were wearing standard braces—popcorn, carrot sticks, chewy candy and more can still be eaten with Invisalign aligners.
And after you’ve had any of these treats, be sure to brush and floss your teeth well. Oral hygiene is easier to maintain with Invisalign. With your aligners removed, use a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste to brush your teeth. Don’t forget to floss, too.
What’s the Invisalign Process?
Before beginning your orthodontic treatment, Dr. Ben Aissa will first want to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. Cavities or gum disease will need to be treated first.
Once your oral health is assured, we’ll take a series of digital x-rays, photographs, and impressions of your teeth. Dr. Aissa uses these to develop your treatment plan, which essentially guides the construction of your customized aligners at the Invisalign lab.
Your aligners will arrive in our office in an organized series of sets. We’ll dispense several sets to you when you come in regularly for progress checks. All you have to do is wear your clear braces for at least 22 hours every day. Although everyone’s case is different, you can probably expect to complete your Invisalign orthodontic treatment in less than two years.
