How Dental Insurance Works

Older man in blazer smilingNo two dental benefit plans are exactly the same. Before we offer estimates of out of pocket treatment costs, we’ll work with you to review your policy and ensure we offer accurate estimates. While no plans are exactly alike, most insurance policies provide the following coverage:

  • 100% preventive care covered
  • Minor restorative care around 70%-80% covered
  • Major restorative care around 50%

What is the Difference Between Dental Insurance & Medical Insurance?

The main difference between dental and medical insurance is the services they focus on. Dental benefits provide the most coverage for preventive care. Medical insurance is geared more towards taking care of patients experiencing emergencies, serious health issues, or chronic disease.

In-Network VS Out of Network Insurance

Smiling man and woman checking in at receptionWhether or not we are in-network with your specific dental insurance plan, we’re happy to partner with you to make the most of your benefits. That includes, reviewing your policy with you, answering coverage questions, processing and filing claims, and assisting you with preapprovals as necessary.

In-Network Coverage

We are in-network providers with the vast majority of local PPO insurance plans, including the following:

  • Aetna
  • Altus Dental
  • Assurant
  • BlueCross BlueShield
  • Cigna
  • Delta Dental
  • Guardian
  • Humana
  • MassHealth
  • United Concordia

Out of Network Coverage

Dental insurance written on yellow notepadWe are also happy to provide treatment for patients who have out of network PPO dental insurance coverage. One of the many benefits of PPO insurance policies is the flexibility to choose the right dental team to meet your unique oral health care needs. Because we are in-network with so many benefit providers, the fees we charge for individual services will likely fall within your insurer’s set pricing. However, if our treatment costs happen to be higher than that allowed by your insurance plan, you will need to pay the difference. We work with dental benefit providers on a regular basis, and we always do our best to minimize out of pocket treatment costs for those patients who entrust us with their dental care needs. Please let us know if you’re ever concerned about lack of coverage. We’ll be happy to answer questions and do whatever we can to help you keep the cost of treatment within your budget.
